Everyone Has A Blast While You Are Naming Your Puppies

Naming your puppies can be tough, since it will stay the same as long as you have the dog. Friends may question your sanity if the name is odd. Likewise, you may be considered boring if the name is unimaginative.

A very small, unpublished study has resulted in a great method for naming puppies. The data has been broken down into instructions for you to maintain the respect of friends, and for the dog to actually respond when you call. Animals can only understand short words that stand out from a sentence. They are not as smart as we like to tell our friends they are.

Soft-sounding names are difficult for dogs to distinguish. For example, Theodore is not as obvious as Teddy, with a hard T. The much-maligned name, Spot, will garner a reaction because it is short and has hard sounds, the P and the T. Likewise, Ariel will likely be ignored but Dog will get a response faster. One-syllable names are easier for your four-legged friend to remember, too.

Depending on the type of friends you have, they may not find a name like Dog funny. If they roll their eyes at you, it might be good to think a little longer for a name that meets their criteria. To the dog, the meaning of a name has no bearing. They will respond equally well to Cup and Rex. They just want to know that you are calling them to you.

Research has shown the best method of naming a pet is to consider the breed and the personality traits. German shepherd names should be strong, intelligent and faithful, like the dog. One-syllable names are the best. Since German shepherd dogs are often used as police dogs, a name like Judge is very appropriate. Nike is great for a female German shepherd; it was the name for the Greek goddess of victory. German shepherds are also known as Alsatians and are a regal breed that is hardworking and proud. The name Rex, which translates to king, suits them well.

Another royal dog is the Pomeranian, made popular by Queen Victoria. They are most often seen as balls of fluff being carried by their doting owners. Still a very popular breed, they are often eschewed by large dog owners as being tiny, barking balls of fur. In reality, they are very protective and aggressive. They have no idea that their size is in any way a handicap against larger beasts. Large dog owners may refer to the small Pomeranian as Pox, while their owners may call lovingly call them Fluffy.

Once known as badger hounds because they hunted beasts of the same name, Dachshunds are sweet and loyal. Often Dachshunds are found as miniatures, but have retained their hunting skills. Although now they hunt rabbits instead of the badgers their predecessors hunted. Natives of Germany, they aspire to achieve the rank of certified hunters and trackers. When they reach this level of training, they are known as a Teckel. Teckel is a wonderful name for this adorable pet.

Naming your puppies really is personal because it is a name offered by a loving owner to a pet who will unconditionally love that person. Regardless of the data presented, the name should be one that you like and that the pet responds to. It does not matter who does or does not like it.

Part of the fun of naming your new puppy is picking the right name. Puppies learn to respond to the name quickly if you repeat it a few times and reward the pet for coming to you.
