The Puppy Goes To School (1)

If you're having doubts about sending your puppy to puppy school, don't. It will not be a scary thing for your puppy but rather a fun new adventure. Puppy school would just seem to him like a trip to the playground. Here's what my friend has to say:

"My neighbor's 100-pound, 9-month old chocolate Labrador Retriever was almost sent to an animal shelter because he was constantly misbehaving - running away, continuously barking, and jumping on people. I adopted the dog and was able to save it."

"Because his old owners didn't know how to train him, they eventually gave up on the dog. He had absolutely no training and was not house trained. He also chews whatever he gets his teeth on."

My friend's statement shows us why proper training is important. It is crucial to start training early to avoid having your puppy grow to be uncontrollable and accustomed to his bad ways. Even though no one wants to see a dog "put to sleep", it is still not easy to find someone willing to adopt an untrained dog.

The Importance Of Puppy School

Early training for puppies can be compared to preschool or kindergarten for young children- except there's less finger painting and singing of songs. As with school for children, the information being taught will affect the dogs' entire future, and the teaching process is designed for young minds with short attention spans.

While preschool teaches youngsters to stay put when the teacher is talking, puppy training teaches the dog to stay put too. It also teaches young puppies and children how to get along with each other.

Puppy training is so beneficial that many breeders require new puppy buyers to complete a training course; some actually putting that requirement into the sales contract. And these breeders do not take a cut of the training course money! (At least that we know of.) Puppy training makes owners happier because they learn how to communicate with their puppies and how to make advantage of the dogs' training.

A breeder named Mario Lopez from Texas screens potential puppy buyers and checks if they have the dedication and time to send the pup to training.

While puppies learn a great deal from puppy training, the owners benefit from it too. A dog sent to puppy school usually makes a pleasing companion and a lovable pet.

I learned these and somedog training advice from Ed Randall's site where you can find out all about puppy training and what it can do for you.
